  • Once a sea cadet goes through two weeks of recruit training and completes their Basic Military Requirements course work they are eligible for a variety of advanced trainings.

  • The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, Sept, 15, at the Levy County Quilt Museum.  We had a lot of yarn brought in.  There are lots of colors and sizes and we’re selling it for $1.00 or less.  We have crochet needles also.  The yarn will help make great Christmas presents without spending a lot of money.
    So many people are sick this week.  Our prayers are with Marge Prevatt. Goldie was out Tuesday and is doing just great.

  •    Cody and Magen Carter, of Chiefland, would like to announce the birth of their new baby girl, Dixie Lee Carter. She was born July 30, 2011, and weighed 9 pounds 8 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.
       Dixie was welcomed home by her big brother, Ty, many grandparents, aunts and uncles.

  • n Old Town United Methodist Women     
       The Old Town United Methodist Women will have a study on Forgiveness and Reconciliation on Saturday, Sept. 24. A morning snack will be served at 9:30 with the program beginning at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. A noon lunch, optional, will be available for $7. This is an event that the North West District UMW provides. All Christian women are welcome.

  •  The Suwannee Valley Players present the comedy thriller “Murder of Scarecrows” at the Chief Theater, 25 E. Park Ave., Chiefland. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.  Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for students (K-12) and seniors 65 or older.  Visit www.svplayers.org for more information.

    Friends half-priced book sale
    The Friends of the Dunnellon Public Library's bookstore is overstocked in all categories. The store, 20351 Robinson Road, Dunnellon, will sell all hard-covered and paperback books for half price during the two-week sale. All proceeds benefit the Dunnellon Public Library.


    TDC meeting

  •    Show off your artistic skills by entering a poster in the Florida Farm Bureau Youth Poster Contest. Each person may enter one poster based on the theme “Back Where I Come From” and agriculture.
       There are three different age divisions for competition: ages 4-6, ages 7-9 and ages 10-12 (all ages as of September 12, 2011).
       Posters will be on display at the Florida Farm Bureau 70th Annual Meeting, Oct. 6-8, 2011.

    n Posters can be no larger than 14” x 22” and can’t be matted or framed.

  •    The Suwannee Valley Players announce the opening of the comedy thriller “Murder of Scarecrows” by Pat Cook. Gerald and Cristine Dandridge, played by Andy and Bobbie Kidd, always give a Halloween party for their friends, Anthony and Lydia Murray, (Rob and Jill Hart), Jimmy Starnes (Austin Ross) and Shirley Frohman (Kelci Grant) and Jack Clancy (Greg Mercier) and Clarice Jarrett (Emily Baker).
