    Friends half-priced book sale
    The Friends of the Dunnellon Public Library's bookstore is overstocked in all categories. The store, 20351 Robinson Road, Dunnellon, will sell all hard-covered and paperback books for half price during the two-week sale. All proceeds benefit the Dunnellon Public Library.

  • Veterans Ivan Chubb, right, and Hubert Jarrell, left, honored Chiefland Citizen editor Lou Elliott Jones as Veteran News Reporter of 2010-11. Chubb, Florida Veterans Affairs Representative, said in his presentation, “Your honesty, hard word and dedication to the principals of freedom is always present. We thank you and are proud to be on your team, as your team is a sure winner. I salute you, Lou, and God bless America and God bless and protect you.”

  •    Roz Boudreau, left in photo above, and Judy Allen, photo below with Boudreau, received volunteer pins for work they have done for the VA Hospital in Gainesville and the local nursing homes, Tri County and Medic Ayers. Boudreau received a pin for 1000 accumulated hours and Allen received her pin for 700 accumulated hours.

  • Rep. announces WW II registration
       Rep. Rich Nugent (FL-05) announced recently that his District Office would be providing assistance to veterans who wish to be registered with the National World War II Memorial.
       On Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the month of September, World War II veterans are invited to stop by the congressman’s district office, located at 16224 Spring Hill Drive in Brooksville for assistance registering with the National World War II Memorial.

  • The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be in Crystal River from Sunday, Oct. 2 to Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Holcim Property on U.S. 19 a mile north of C.R. 488. Other military tributes will also be open free to the public 24 hours a day. All veterans, families and school groups can also visit the Florida Military of the Order Purple Heart Mural Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the Moving Tribute to those dead in the Global War on Terror and Sept. 11.

  • WASHINGTON – Veterans who served aboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships operating on the waters of Vietnam between January 9, 1962, and May 7, 1975, may be eligible to receive Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation for 14 medical conditions associated with presumptive exposure to Agent Orange. 

  • The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Levy County Quilt Museum. Our days are getting so busy so we know that the fall of the year isn’t so far away.   Our Northern Quilters will be back with us soon.
    Goldie McHenry is at Hospice and we visited with her. So far she is doing well. Our prayers are with so many now and more are being added to the list to be remembered.
