  • Floridians 50+ unprepared for rising utility costs

     A recent survey conducted by AARP confirms that Floridians 50+ are concerned about their finances, thinking about having to delay retirement and struggling with day-to-day costs of living as big spikes in fuel costs ripple through the economy.
    According to media reports, some advisors to Gov. Rick Scott have even discussed raising your electric bills – and those of existing Florida businesses – to raise money to lure new and expanding businesses to Florida.

    Now is a good time to contact your legislators and tell them what a good job they are doing holding costs down. Their fantastic wisdom predicted seniors would not need a cost of living increase in 2010-2011. After all, the only thing that went up in 2010 was gas, Medicare, food, house insurance, car insurance and medicine. Seniors require a great deal more medication than we did when we were only 45 or 55.

  • Seniors enjoy trip to Walmart

       Wal-Mart Manager Arnie Pierce presents the "Bus Seniors" with a new big screen television to be used at the Trenton Senior Center.    The monthly trips to Wal-Mart on the Gilchrist County free bus have become a social event that all the riders look forward to on the first Friday of each month. The group wishes to thank not only the manager, but all the employees of Walmart for all the help they have provided over the last few months.
     

  • Tummond to party for No. 93

       The family and many friends of former Levy County Tax Collector C.D. Tummond are having a 93rd birthday party for him on Saturday, April 2, at the Brinkman Farm on County Road 330 — 10351 N.W. 70th St.— Chiefland. Friends will begin gathering at 11 a.m. with lunch at 1 p.m.  All are welcome and guests are asked, if you can, bring a chair and if you wish, a favorite dish. Balloons will mark the drive on which to turn.
