    Did you know you could lower your prescription drug costs by applying for Extra Help?

    This is a financial assistance program administered by the Social Security Administration that helps cover the costs of prescription drugs.

  • Elder Options to host a public hearing

    The public is invited to attend a public hearing hosted by Elder Options on Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. in Conference Room A, 100 S.W. 75th St., Suite 301, Gainesville.

  • Medicare recipients can keep Medigap Plans C, F

    The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (Office) wants to remind Medicare recipients with an existing Medigap Plan C or F that they can keep their plan.

    Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) program, presents “All About Medicare” on Monday, July 27 at 2 p.m. in Crystal River.

  • Elder Option hearing

     Elder Options will host a public hearing at 3 p.m. Dec. 22 to inform participants of an Older Americans Act service that Elder Options is proposing to provide directly through its Area Plan on Aging Update for 2015 (2013-2015 cycle). The service is the Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Program (aka Tai Chi for Arthritis). Participants will have the opportunity to make public comments.

    Persons with disabilities should contact Elder Options at least 48 hours prior to the meeting in order to request any special assistance.

  • AARP chapter to meet Dec. 16

    The monthly meeting of AARP Local Chapter No. 2133 will be held Tuesday, Dec.16, in the Lodge House of Otter Springs, starting at 10:30 a.m.

    Janice Rogers, program chair, announced that entertainment will be provided by Dick Grillo, director of Community and Church Outreach, Advent Christian Village at Dowling Park. He will also answer any inquiry you might have about the facilities at Advent Christian Village.

  • Free phones for the hearing impaired

    The Suwannee River Economic Center will host the Center for Independent Living Free Phone Giveaway for hearing impaired people from 9:15 a.m. until noon, Dec. 17, at the Chiefland Senior Center, 305 S.W. 1st St.

       A 5-minute hearing test is available for those who are not sure if they qualify.
