    At the annual Volunteer Banquet they were awarded the certificate for donating the most hours of the volunteer groups.

    Levy County Road Department Shop Manager Charlie Bedford, left, was honored for his service in keeping vehicles on the road for the Levy County Public Safety Department by DPS Director David Knowles at Tuesday's County Commission meeting, while Marty Wright, representing Dixie Auto Salvage, received a plaque of appreciation for the company's help in obtaining 20 vehicles for training for fire and emergency medical service employees.

  • Luther Beauchamp to retire from law practice

    After more than 45 years of law practice in Levy County, R. Luther Beauchamp has announced his intent to retire from the active law practice effective Nov. 1. He started his practice in Bronson in 1969 and moved to his current Chiefland office in 1975.

    Beauchamp will continue to serve as general counsel for Florida Baptist Convention and will be completing matters for some current clients, which will take him beyond the Nov. 1 date.

  • Henderson scholarships go to four graduates

    Four graduates of Chiefland High School's Class of 2014 are entering college in the coming weeks with the help of scholarships they are receiving from the Alice Faye Henderson Scholarship Fund that is part of the Levy County Schools Foundation.

    Kelsi Alexander, who was senior class president and class valedictorian, will study nursing.

    Alexandra Gilliam will study to work in the field of nursing, with a specialty in pediatrics.

    The engagement of Adrienne Victoria Moody to Allen Martin Beasley is announced by her parents Mrs. Owen Baynard, and Mr. and Mrs. Horace A. Moody of Destin. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Pansy Robinson of Bronson. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce A. Beasley of Ethel, La.

  • Log Cabin Quilters

         The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, Aug 7, at the Levy County Quilt Museum at 11050 N.W. 10th Ave. Alice Mae and Janie each brought in items for us to see.

    Janie brought in the Drunkard’s Path that she had been working on for some time. Alice Mae brought in the square dance dress that she made in the 1970s. We were all in agreement that it was the dress that had shrunk over the years making it too small for her to wear now.

  • MILITARY: Arnold

    Airman Sarabi D. Arnold graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

    The Air Force airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    At the Military Order of the Cooties Supreme Convention in St. Louis, Kathy Browne, Auxiliary President to the Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary, P.T. 25 received the Supreme Award for Auxiliary President of the Year.

  • Birthday: MacArthur

    James Allen MacArthur turned 1-year-old on Aug. 5 and celebrated with his parents Ashley and James MacArthur and big sister Lily, all of Chiefland.

  • Anniversary: Bushnell

    High school sweethearts, Drs. Donna Lee and Jay Richard Bushnell will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Aug. 22.

    The Bushnells have two sons, six grandchildren and one great grandson.

    Since 2004, the couple have lived full time at Fowlers Bluff. He is past president of the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Key National Wildlife Refuges Friends group. She is president-elect of the Cedar Key Arts Center and volunteers with her pet therapy dog, Sola, at Haven Hospice.
