    • Old Town Methodist hosts cookie walk and Christmas sale

    The Old Town United Methodist Women and the Bible Study Class are having their annual cookie walk and Christmas sale on Saturday, Dec. 5 in the fellowship hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A cookie walk is tables of homemade cookies ready for you to choose from.

        You purchase the size tin you wish to fill and pick from among the decorative and special dietetic cookies. Plus there will be many beautiful and useful Christmas items.

    for Samaritan’s Purse, world’s

    largest Christmas project

     Suwannee Valley residents are packing shoe box gifts for children in more than 100 countries suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine and poverty for Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project.

  • Caregivers can learn with pampering seminar, webinar

    Taking care of someone you love can be a tough job. It's hard to find time for yourself.

    Knowing what a hard job caregivers have, a group of organizations have come together to give you a little "Me Time."

    A caregiver day of pampering is planned for Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Gilchrist Women's Club from 9 a.m. to 3  p.m. Dr. Rafael Cott, medical director for Gentiva Home Care, will be the guest speaker. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost.

    Soup 'n' sandwich at Turning Point

    Turning Point Ministry  will host a Soup and Sandwich Supper for $5 per person on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    Sims speaks Sunday at Lighthouse Word

        

    Pastor Jacinto Sims, one of the nation’s most sought after worship leaders, will be speaking at Lighthouse Word Church  at the Sunday, 10:30 a.m. service.  Sims has been privileged to have led worship for ministries such as Myles Munroe, Joyce Meyers, Clint Brown, Juanita Bynum, Ron Kenoly, John Bynum and many more.  For more information, please call 493-1554.  A nursery will be provided for the service.

  • Cantata for veterans has two performances

    Two performances of the cantata, “Prayer for America” are scheduled to honor veterans. The Old Town United Methodist Church choir will present “Prayer for America” as its third annual Veterans Day remembrance. The first performance will be on Saturday night, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Dixie Cultural Center (the “old” Old Town School at the corner of County Road 349 South and State Road 55A.) The performance is open to the public and veterans and their families.

    • Ebenezer Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming October 25. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and the morning worship service begins at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Eddie Hatch. Lunch will be served following the morning service. There will be no evening service.

  • Chiefland churches ban together against abortion

    Dozens of people stood on street corners and sidewalks in Chiefland Sunday holding up signs calling for an end to abortion.

    The demonstrators, from various local churches, were participating in Life Chain, a national event meant to increase awareness about abortion and its alternatives.

    Matthew Kidd, 16, Chiefland, stood in front of Chiefland High School holding a sign that read, “Abortion kills children.”

    “We think abortion is wrong.  This is just one of the ways we tell the community,” he said.

    First Christian Church Yard Sale First Christian Church of Chiefland will hold a yard sale to benefit their Christmas Stocking Fund on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  at 6591 N. W. 140th St. (CR346).  Each year our church delivers over 200 hand-made Christmas stockings filled with toys, games and other goodies to Partnership for Stronger Families for foster children in our area.  All funds from the yard sale will be for this purpose.

  • Log Cabin Quilters

    The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Levy County Quilt Museum.  We are starting to put things outside for a yard sale. We have so much that has been brought in and we do need the space, as we will soon be getting ready for the Quilt Show.  Also it is almost time to be thinking about the State Fair and if you have anything that you want to be put it, we will soon be ready to do the applications.
