  • Retirement: Reception honoring Etheridge Nov. 1

        A teacher, a coach, board member and friend, G. Frank Etheridge’s tenure has come to an end. He will be retiring at the end of his term with the Nov. 2 election,
       The public schools of Williston will host a reception in his honor from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Williston Middle School Cafetorium.

       Army Maj. Shawn J. Morton has arrived for duty U.S. Army North Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.  His wife, Katrina, is the daughter of Queen Frazier of Williston.
       Morton, an assistant operations and plans engineer, has served in the military for 13 years.
       Morton received an associate degree and earned a bachelor's degree both in 1998 from the University of Virgin Islands, St. Thomas.

  • Al-anon speakers bureau available

    North Central Florida District 2 Al-anon has a Speakers’ Bureau that can provide people to talk on Al-anon topics.

    Al-Anon speakers are available for Al-Anon/Ala-teen  groups, teachers, educators, clergy, church groups, AA groups, social workers, conventions, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, penal institutions, doctors/nurses, and others.
    Topics include: personal recovery, 12 steps/traditions/concepts, service, spiritual journey of Al-anon, serenity, prayer, literature and slogans.

  • Come join the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps, Manatee Division

       Manatee Division drills at Coast Guard Station Yankeetown, in Yankeetown, on the second weekend of each month. The Sea Cadets are for youth ages 13 through 17 years old. There is a Navy League Cadet unit for youth ages 11 through 13 years old.
       The Corps provides a fun and challenging environment that is free of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and gangs.

        Army Pvt. Deonte J. White,  the son of Kursey Carnegie and grandson of Carl Carnegie of Williston, has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. White is a 2009 graduate of Williston High School.

  • All Cedar Key churches receive donations from Eagles

    A number of Cedar Key families in need will benefit from donations by Cedar Key Aerie 4194, the local branch of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, following a decision to help the island churches support needy local families.

     Roz Boudreau, a member of Chiefland Home and Community Educators, presents Connie Brown, administrator of Tri-County Outreach, with a check for $250. The money will be used to purchase food for distribution to the needy in Levy County.

  • Griner elected to office in forestry group

    Lynetta Usher Griner, an officer of Usher Land & Timber of Chiefland, has been elected president-elect of the Florida Forestry Association for the next two years.  Griner, an attorney, works for the family-owned timber operation.
    Bryan J. Olmert, president of Loncala, Inc. a land and timber operation in Alachua County was elected president of the association during the group's meeting in Destin on Sept. 9.
