  • Local FFA members compete nationally

     This October, seven Chiefland senior FFA members, along with advisors Dallas Locke and Katie Jones, traveled to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.  They represented the state of Florida well, with the Dairy Judging team finishing 23rd and team member Rheba Sheffield qualifying as a gold medal finalist.  Also, Hailey Bason made top 16 in the nation for Creed Speaking, and Sarah Gore competed in the National Talent Competition.

  • Military: Bell graduates from Basic

     Army Pvt. Nina M. Bell, the daughter of Sabrina and stepdaughter of Ben Wilson of Cedar Key,  has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.  Bell is a 2010 graduate of Cedar Key School.

  • Engagement: Leonard-Hill

     Mr. and Mrs. Regay and Thomas Herrin, of Bell, would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Savannah Yvonne Leonard, also of Bell, to Matthew Garrett Hill, of Trenton.

    Leonard has a degree in applied kinesiology and exercise science from the University of Florida.  She graduated form Bell High School.  Hill graduated from Bronson High School.  Their wedding is set for Nov. 6, 2010.

  • Chiefland Fire Rescue teaches kids about fire safety

     In October, members of Chiefland Fire Rescue visited several schools and children's organizations in an effort to educate children about fire safety and prevention.  More than 1,000 children, ranging in age from 5 to 9, were visited by CFR.  Educational topics included knowing how to dial 911 in an emergency, devising an escape plan and the importance of not playing with fire.

  • Class Reunion: 2000

  • Wedding: Whitmer-Jones

    Crystal Jones and Kenton Whitmer were married in a private ceremony in Montegeo Bay, Jamaica, on Oct. 8, 2010. The bride is the daughter of Leon and Donna Jones, of Chiefland.  The groom is the son of Bruce and Kathy Whitmer of Chiefland.  Mrs. Whitmer is employed at Shands Teaching Hospital and is attending Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Whitmer is an attorney in Chiefland. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Louisville, and a Juris Doctorate from Thomas Cooley Law School. The couple resides in Gainesville, Florida.

  • Engagement: Harrison-Webster

     Kenneth and Julie Harrison of Bell announce the engagement of their daughter, Racheal Harrison, to Trey Webster, son of Sammy and Karen Webster of Chiefland. The couple are to wed on Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. at Hurley's Waccasassa Plantation, Branford. 

  • Williston grad teacher of the year in Duval County

    Sadie Tillis Elementary School is in Duval County. Williston High School graduate (Class of 1987) Pamela White Penny has taught there for 10 years. Now she has been named Teacher of the Year for 2011-12 by her peers. Penny is the daughter of Sammie and Ruthena (Edwards) White, long-time employees of the School Board of Levy County and now retired. She is married to Larry Penny of Raleigh. They and their two sons, Jalen and Jared, attend Potter’s House Church in Jacksonville.
