• One-man committee drums up new volunteers for Haven Hospice

    Arnold Dittenber is a Haven Hospice ambassador, recruiter and one-man welcoming committee. Whether he’s out in the community drumming up new volunteers for Haven or greeting veterans at a Veterans Day breakfast, he makes everyone around him feel appreciated.
     A retired hardware store owner who moved to Florida from Michigan, this longtime Haven volunteer lost his wife Shirley Lanier after a 2-1/2 year battle with cancer.  She was his partner in life and in volunteering at Haven. She died the night before their 11th anniversary last year.

    Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Hall, of Chiefland, announce the engagement of their daughter, Brittney Hall, also of Chiefland, to Brad Sheffield, of Gainesville.  
    Sheffield is the son of Suzanne Melton and Kevin Sheffield, also of Gainesville.
    The bride-to-be is a graduate of Chiefland High School and Santa Fe College.  
    She is attending Florida State College at Jacksonville.
    Sheffield is a graduate of Bucholtz High School, in Gainesville, and has an associate of arts degree from Santa Fe College in air traffic control.

    Addilynn Capri Cason was born on Nov. 13, 2010.  She weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long.  She is the daughter of Dustin and Tiffany Cason, both stationed at Forth Hood, Texas.
    Paternal grandparents are Donnie and Jean Cason, of Chiefland. Paternal great-grandparents are Leo and Louise Cason, also of Chiefland.
    The maternal grandparent is Ricky Jordon, of Trenton, and the maternal great-grandparents are Linda Dickerson, of Chiefland, and Madge Jordan, of Trenton.

  • Children need advocacy

     Every child deserves a chance at a bright future that holds the hope of a stable, nurturing family.  Children taken away from their parents due to neglect and abuse often lose that hope and are lost in a sea of social workers, attorneys, therapists, and caregivers.  A Guardian ad Litem volunteer is a lifeline for them, someone whose attention is focused on that child and what is in their best interest.

    Saundra Stephens and Michael Stephens have announced their engagement and plans to marry in November.

    Miss Stephens is the daughter of Deanna Stephens of Chiefland and the late Rudolph Stephens. Mr. Stephens is the son of Earl Stephens of Chiefland, and Kay and Ron Teal of  Bronson. Both are graduates of Chiefland High School.

    The bride is a graduate of Dixie County High School.  The groom is a graduate of Trenton High School.  The wedding is planned for May 21.

    Mr. and Mrs. Donnie and Jean Cason, of Chiefland, would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Carmen Amber Trent, to Michael Alan Beauchamp, also of Chiefland.  Beauchamp is the son of Mike and Laurel Beauchamp, of Chiefland, and Zondra and Ed Amos, of Trenton. Both Carmen and Michael graduated from Chiefland High School. The wedding is planned for May 21, 2011 at the Trenton Womens Club.
