  • Father Figures

     First Baptist Church of Chiefland aired previews of the movie “Courageous” during its Father's Day Breakfast on June 18. The movie, in theaters Sept. 30, is about four police officers tackling their fears and their faith while learning lessons about what it takes to be a courageous dad. Pictured left, Stuart Wasson goes over scriptures and talks about steps to becoming a courageous father. More than 70 were in attendance and enjoyed a tasty breakfast that included biscuits and sausage gravy.

      Army Pvt. Matthew C. McKinney, the son of Michael McKinney of Chiefland and Tammi Reda of St. Cloud. has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training.

  • Anniversary celebration

    Denny and Jo Williams, of Chiefland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were wed on June 20, 1961, in Dade City.

  • Engagement: Ransom-Jones

       Mr. and Mrs. Chet and Dana Collins and Stephen Jones, of Bell, announce the engagement of their daughter Andi Jones, also of Bell, to Randy T. Ransom, of Chiefland. Ransom is the son of Randy and Jammie Ransom, of Trenton, and Lorrie Hammock, of Chiefland.
       The bride-to-be attended  Bell High School and is currently studying nursing at Santa Fe College. The groom-to-be attended Chiefland High School and works at the Gilchrist Club, in Trenton.
    The wedding is planned for July 2, 2011, at 4 p.m. at Pricilla Baptist Church.

    Wanda Neilsen and William Graden are set to marry June 25, at 2 p.m. at 214 S.E. 3rd Ave., in Trenton.

  • Log Cabin Qulters for June 16

     The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, June 9, at the Levy County Quilt Museum.    Quilting was done on the Log Cabin Quilt in the frame.   We have more quilt tops to be done but in the summer everyone has much to do at home.
    We’ve had more fruits and vegetables to be brought in.   All this takes time to can or freeze and we very much appreciate everything that comes in.

  • Five years of service

    City of Chiefland employee Candy Pipkins, left, receives a pin from City Manager Grady Hartzog Monday night for five years of service with the city. Pipkin is a staff assistant at City Hall who mainly works for the utility department. She also handles scheduling for the parks and recreation department and handles some of the city’s payroll.

    Donnie and Patricia Eplee announce the engagement of their daughter Kelly Braswell to Jared Douglas, son of Greg and Susan Douglas. Miss Braswell attends Sante Fe College and is employed at Drummond Community Bank. He is a graduate of the University of Florida and attends New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also the collegiate and missions pastor at Pince Grove Baptist Church.
    The wedding will take place at Pine Grove Baptist Church on July 9 at 4:30 p.m. Reception will follow.
