A friend of mine said to me recently, "Old boy, how's it feel to be a member of the Over-the-Hill gang?" I mumbled something as politely as I could, but on the inside, I was a little furious. I may be getting older, but I definitely am not old! In fact, I plan to get older every day.
A couple of weeks ago, I bought my wife a dozen roses. The occasion, you ask? Do you really have to ask? It’s called planning ahead or preventative maintenance. Some may even put it in the same category as early season preparation. The funny thing is, she knows my schemes. She laughs at the brazen way I ease the shock of another deer season where she becomes a hunting widow.
I went out on a hot date the other night, and boy was my wife Angie jealous. I hated leaving her out in the cold like that, but there’s just been a stirring in my soul lately. Sometimes, a man has got to do what a man’s got to do.

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have, for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
A partnership in happiness needs at least two people of the same mind. Often we see two young people of the same mind. They may fall in love and get married. Their continued happiness, however, depends on their staying of the same mind.
I’m not one of those professional archers who shoot their bow year-round. I am a hunter who has to wipe the dust off of it during this time of year. I know this is the period where I have to begin shooting in order to feel comfortable in various hunting situations when deer season comes about. But it’s so hot right now. And because my wife is not too keen about me setting up an indoor range down the hall in my house, I am going to have to endure the August heat for a chance at October meat.
People used to come from miles around to watch me train my black lab Leroy. Not because he was so smart, it’s just nobody had ever seen a dog swim the back-stroke.
Like all labs, Leroy loved to fetch. He just happened to be deathly afraid of water! It was sure something to see when those two driving forces collided. If I’d of had any business sense I’d have charged people admission to watch him go. I’d have gotten richer than whoever owns that talking Gecko.
