Everyone has a favorite flower; some diehard gardeners have several. But whether you have a simple row of tulips or an elaborate sculptured garden of perenniels, one thing is the same: you've got to pull weeds or you won't have any flowers at all.
If you want a beautiful garden, you've got to be diligent about eradicating those pesky weeds. You can go away for a long weekend, but those "unwanteds" in your garden aren't going to take a vacation.
Some time ago Linda and I took our friends Terry and Maggie Kennedy to Horseshoe Beach to celebrate their birthdays which are a day apart. This is a beautiful area, right on the Gulf coast, with a restaurant overlooking the ocean.
As we were approaching the restaurant we noticed a boat loaded with sponges that the crew had harvested from the sea. Linda and Maggie became very excited and soon were engaged in conversation with one of the crew members.
A friend of mine said to me recently, "Old boy, how's it feel to be a member of the Over-the-Hill gang?" I mumbled something as politely as I could, but on the inside, I was a little furious. I may be getting older, but I definitely am not old! In fact, I plan to get older every day.
A couple of weeks ago, I bought my wife a dozen roses. The occasion, you ask? Do you really have to ask? It’s called planning ahead or preventative maintenance. Some may even put it in the same category as early season preparation. The funny thing is, she knows my schemes. She laughs at the brazen way I ease the shock of another deer season where she becomes a hunting widow.
I went out on a hot date the other night, and boy was my wife Angie jealous. I hated leaving her out in the cold like that, but there’s just been a stirring in my soul lately. Sometimes, a man has got to do what a man’s got to do.

A partnership in happiness needs at least two people of the same mind. Often we see two young people of the same mind. They may fall in love and get married. Their continued happiness, however, depends on their staying of the same mind.
