    Dunnellon Library friends book sale

    The Friends of the Dunnellon Public Library Book Store will have a storewide sale at the store inside the library located at 20351 Robinson Road (behind Sweetbay) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

    The Friends are offering everyday low prices of $2 for hardcovers; $1 for large paperbacks and .50 for paperbacks.  This week all books big and small, fiction and non-fiction will be 50 cents each.  Inventory changes daily depending on donations.

  • Equestrian Charity Auction

    Tomorrow’s Equestrian Center, based in Levy County, will hold its fourth annual charity auction and BBQ on Saturday, Nov. 14 beginning at 4 p.m.

    The event will be held at Southern Auction Marketing Services, at 15991 Hwy 27 Alt., just west of Williston on the north side of the road.

    The barbeque begins at 4 p.m. and costs $5 per plate.  Takeout is available.  The Bar-B-Q includes two pieces of chicken, Cole slaw, beans and bread.

    Halloween fun at Chiefland library

    Join in on the Halloween fun as kids young and old are invited to decorate and eat cookies from 5 to 5:30 p.m. at the Luther Callaway Public Library in Chiefland. The library will provide all materials needed for this free event.     American Legion Post 91 meeting

    The Jamerson-Sheffield Post 91 of the American Legion wants to remind all its members and Auxiliary Unit of their next meeting. It will take place on Oct. 15 starting at 5:30 p.m. with a donation dinner and the meeting to follow. The menu consists of grilled sausage, baked beans, coleslaw and  dessert. Members are asked to bring a dessert. The Post is located next to the FFA arena, north of Trenton, on State Road 129. Veterans are welcome and members are encouraged to bring a guest.

  • Willie Nelson to play at Suwannee Music Fest

    Country fans, get your jeans, your head rags and boots ready as country legend Willie Nelson will perform at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park at the first two-day Down On The Suwannee Music Festival being held on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17.

        Nelson will be joined by country sensation James Otto whose hits include “Since You Brought It Up” and “Just Got Started Lovin’ You”; Big Kenny of Big & Rich, Josh Thompson, David Cooler, Mike Mullis and Mercy Mountain Band

  • The ‘Crown Jewel’ of Florida’s springs

    If you love and appreciate North Florida’s springs and rivers, particularly the Itchetucknee, you will be rejuvenated by a presentation by local photographer and artist Steven Earl on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Fort White Community Center in Fort White.

    Earl will present images of and reflections on the Itchetucknee Springs and River that he has recently compiled into a book titled "Itchetucknee: Sacred Waters".  

    The event hosted by Save Our Suwannee, Inc. is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided afterward.

  • SVP’s new season continues with “Seven Year Itch”

    The Suwannee Valley Players’ 2009-2010 season opened this past weekend with the “Seven Year Itch,” a comedy by George Axelrod, that was made famous when Marilyn Monroe starred as “The Girl” in the 1955 movie. It runs again this weekend at the Chief Theatre.

    Genealogy & History Society program on free sources

    The Genealogy & History Society of Levy County will meet at 2 p.m. at the Levy County Quilt Museum. This month's program will be on sources for free online genealogy presented by Bonnie Hill, a member of the society. All members are encouraged to attend and visitors are welcome.

  • Peanut festival Saturday in Williston

    In a nutshell, you are guaranteed a day of fun this Saturday when Heritage Park is lined with vendors, entertainment and thousands of visitors at the 21st Annual Central Florida Peanut Festival. Originally a project of the Williston Woman’s Club to salute the local peanut industry, the Festival is now sponsored by the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce as its signature event.  For nearly a year, Chamber members have planned how to make this year’s celebration bigger and better. The day kicks off at 9 a.m.
