• Rummage sale loaded with treasures

    A treasure hunters rummage sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 14-16 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and Cedar Key Food Pantry.
    The sale, sponsored by the Cedar Key Pirates in Paradise, will be held at the Big Deck Raw Bar on Dock Street.

  • Bird Walk Monday in the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge

       For wannabes and old hands, come birding with experienced intrepid birders on Monday, Jan. 10.  On the first Monday of each month a place is selcted in the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Key Wildlife Refuges to see whatever birds are around and to enjoy the outdoors. Plant lovers enjoy these outings as well.

       The Humane Society of Levy County will hold a fundraising fish fry, silent auction and concert featuring the country group McKinley and Beggs on Jan. 22, at McKenzie’s Four Corners, at the intersection of State Highway 24 and U.S. Highway 27A.

  • Manatee Springs to host Manatee Awareness Month events

    The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Manatee Springs State Park will host a variety of featured guests throughout the month of January.
    January is known as Manatee Awareness Month. With the cooler weather, the featured guests will be the manatees, along with partners in manatee protection awareness, education and enforcement.

    Cedar Key is holding a boat parade on Saturday, Dec. 11, with a rain date on Sunday, Dec. 12.

    Boats will line up in the Gulf in front of the Beach Front Motel around dusk.

    Prizes will be awarded to the best decorated boats.
