    Dunnellon Community Thrift Store open

     

    The Community Thrift Shop has opened a new store at 11871 Illinois Ave., in the old Sertoma Club building behind the Route 41 Dry Cleaner across from Dunnellon Printing on Illinois Avenue.

     Thrift Shop hours are now 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Mon. through Sat.

     In addition to providing a place to donate gently used clothing, household and decorative items, it gives the community a place to shop for low cost necessities.

  • Holiday Duet marries chopper, color red with seasonal music

    Actors singing traditional songs of the season, admission to the “Art of the Chopper” and “Red” exhibitions, and tasty holiday treats are all included in the Holiday Duet program offered by the Ocala Civic Theatre and Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College Dec. 17-20.

    Admission is $18 per person and tickets are available at the Appleton Museum, Ocala Civic Theatre and online at www.AppletonMuseum.org and www.ocalacivictheatre.com.

  • “Christmas is Coming” cantata at Old Town and Chiefland

    The combined choirs of the Old Town and Chiefland United methodist Churches will present “Christmas is Coming” in two performances.  The first presentation will be on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Old Town United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.  The second performance will be at the Chiefland United Methodist Church at 4 p.m.  All are welcome to come and enjoy the performances.

  • Holiday extravaganza at Lighthouse Word

    The Lighthouse Word Church will be hosting a Christmas holiday extravaganza titled, "It's Christmas Time" with the international singing group, Shekinah Glory, on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m.  The performance will be a mixture of Christmas and traditional holiday music and drama.  Appetizers and holiday baked goods will be served after the performance.

  • Bluegrass Gospel Concert

    There will be a Bluegrass Gospel concert at Hardeetown Baptist Church featuring "Lou Reid and Carolina" at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10.  The Band, consisting of Trevor Watson on banjo, Shannon Slaughter on guitar, Lou Reid on mandolin and his wife, Christy, on bass guitar, is from Union Grove, N.C.

    The public is invited to attend and will hear a good message delivered in song with fantastic bluegrass picking and beautiful harmony.

    Admission is free.  Hardeetown Baptist Church is located at 1716 N.W. 14th St., in Chiefland, along Hwy 341.

  • 4-H Christmas party

    The Levy County 4-H is hosting their Annual Christmas Party on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Levy County Extension Office.

    Everyone is invited, without regard to race, color, sex, age, national origin, or religion.  Each family is asked to bring a covered dish to share and a small cake or cookies for the Cake Walk.  All the 4-H Clubs in Levy County are asked to prepare an activity or a Make-and-Take to share with everyone.  For more information, please call Brenda Heberling at 352-486-5131.

    Take a pet home for holidays

    Dixie County Humane Society is participating in the national “Foster A Lonely Pet For the Holidays” pet fostering program starting today and having a foster/adoption event on Sunday, Dec. 6 at Walmart in Chiefland.

    Across the country, over 13,000 pet rescue organizations are trying to empty their kennels for Christmas, encouraging members of the public to invite a pet home for the holidays. 

  • Festival of Lights coming soon

    Excitement is building as time draws near for the 21st annual Festival of Lights and Christmas Boat Parade.  Fort Fanning Park will come alive on Saturday, Dec. 12, with many types of art and crafts on display and a wide variety of foods to choose from   Santa Claus is busy getting ready for all the children to visit him, receive a toy and have their pictures taken with him too.

  • Children of the World concert Wednesday

    The Lighthouse Word Church will be hosting in concert, The Children of The World International Children’s Choir on Wednesday, December 2, at 7 p.m. These orphan children travel the world to generate compassion and inspire individuals to get involved by providing clean water to help save lives.  A special video presentation will take you into the heart of this crisis and show how you can make a difference.
