  • Guardian ad Litem seeks volunteers

       Be a powerful voice in a child’s life.  Advocate in the court system for children who have been taken away for neglect and abuse.

  • American Legion Auxiliary 383 Easter dinner for veterans

     The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 383, Old Town, is having an Easter Dinner – ham and all fixings – on Sunday, April 4, from 12:30  p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  A nominal donation of $5.00 is asked. 

      This dinner is for American Legion,  Sons of the American Legion and Auxiliary  members, their families and guests.  Not everyone has someone – so don’t be alone – come spend the afternoon with us and have a good meal was well!

    Spooky movie at Chiefland library

    Join the Levy County library System for a movie about werewolves and sparkly vampires at 5 p.m. at Luther Callaway Public Library, and at 5 p.m. March 29 at the Bronson Public Library..

    The 2009 movie based on a Stephenie Meyer book will be shown. It has a running time of two hours, 10 minutes.

    It is rated PG-13 for some violence and action.

  • Canning and preserving

       Spring is here and the garden soon will be producing tons of vegetables and fruits, or  perhaps you are planning to take advantage of farmer’s markets, road-side stands or you-pick operations to buy a large amount of food to put away for later in the year.

       Preserving some of that food  will give you great taste and good nutrition and will also make memories for a lifetime.  

       Join us on for a canning update.  You have several choices of dates and times:

  • Easter Egg Hunt

       The City of Fanning Springs will holds it annual egg hunt at  Fort Fanning Historical Park by the bridge on Saturday  from 11 a.m. until all are found.

       There will be groups for the hunt: ages two to four are in Toddlers and Preschool; ages five to six, in the K-1st; ages seven to nine, and ages 10 to 12.

       There will be drawings for bikes in each age group and other gifts. There will also be free snow cones and pop corn, hot dogs will be $1, chips. 50 cents, and drinks 50 cents.

    World War II Veterans

    to meet in Suwannee

    All World War veterans are invited to lunch on Thursday, March 11, at 11:30 a.m. at the Salt Creek Restaurant in Suwannee. Join the camaraderie and a surprise guest or two.

  • Withlacoochee canoe, kayak race

    The 2nd Annual Withlacoochee Wilderness Canoe & Kayak Race and Rally, hosted by Withlacoochee Area Residents, Inc., will start April 10 at 9:30 a.m.

    All proceeds will help fund the organization's efforts to protect and preserve Florida’s Nature Coast and its water sources.

  • Tournament to fund scholarship honoring slain deputy

       An April 16 gold tournament to be held at Chiefland Golf and County Club will benefit a scholarship fund established in memory of slain Dixie County Sheriff's Capt. Chad Reed Sr.

       Reed, who was killed in the line of duty by a multiple shooting suspect on Jan. 14, is survived by a wife, Holly, and two sons, C.J., 9, and Caden, 5.

       Stacy Marlow, an organizer of the event, spoke to the Chiefland Rotary Club recently and came away with a $250 donation and a $250 hole sponsorship from the group. Marlow's cousin is Reed's widow.

  • Ceday Key Spring Arts Festival

       The festival will be held this year on April 24 and 25.

       During the next month, the OFCA Committee will be reaching out to local groups and individuals to solicit volunteers. There are a wide variety of ways to help with this event including setup/take down, being a block captain, and/or assisting at the artist’s reception in the CKAC sculpture garden Saturday evening.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or have an in-kind donation to contribute, please contact Mandy Cassiano at cedarkeyarts@bellsouth.net or 543-5400.
