  • Donations for babies

    The Walmart Supercenter

    is collecting donations for the Childrens Miracle Network

    until June 20.

    A $1 donation will get you entered in a raffle

     to win a quilt donated by

    the Log Cabin Quilters.

    On Mother’s Day, Sunday,

    moms can bring their babies to the store and have a rocking chair portrait taken.  

    The photos will cost $1.

    Money collected will benefit babies at Shands.

  • The Great Suwannee River Cleanup

    Current Problems was asked by the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail Working Group and the Suwannee River Water Management District to coordinate a cleanup of the of the Suwannee River from the Georgia line to the Gulf of Mexico.

    The cleanup will consist of many small cleanups all along the river during a three-month window from September through November.   Volunteers are needed.    

    Some have already committed, so look at our map to see what is covered so far at www.bit.ly/GSRC2010.

    The Levy County Cattlemen and Landowners Association is having its spring meeting on Thursday, April 29, at 7 p.m. The location is Don Quincy’s home on the Suwannee River.

     The Levy County National Day of Prayer event will be held at the Levy County Courthouse at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 6,  at  the flag pole. This is the time to pray for the nation, state, county, cities and towns. 

      Bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas.

    On April 22, the city of Fanning Springs will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with USDA Rural Development with a tree planting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Fanning Historical Park.  For more information, call Fanning Springs City Hall at 352-463-2855.

    Dixie Music Center is holding it’s spring recital Saturday at 4:00 p.m. with the Dixie County Historical Society once again hosting the event at the Dixie County Cultural Center (old Old Town Elementary School) on the corner of County Road 349 South and State Road 55A in Old Town.

    n Joppa Baptist hosts "Day in the Lord"

    Joppa Baptist would like to invite the public to attend  a “Day in the Lord” on Sturday, April 24. There will be five pastors preaching throughout the day starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m.  Come at any time. There will also be music throughout the day and a chicken dinner at noon.  Everyone is welcome.  Joppa is located at 7530 NW 165th St in Fanning Springs.

    Thursday   WRPC meeting The next Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council (WRPC) Board of Directors Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the WRPC office located at 1241 SW 10th Street, Ocala, 34471-0323.   Florida Tourism Task Force meeting The monthly meeting of the Original Florida Tourism Task Force will be held on Thursday, April 15 at 10 a.m.

  • Train awareness

    Train safety awareness week is April 18 to 24. The local law enforcement agencies and Florida Operation Lifesaver will be setting up at various railroad crossings throughout the state in an effort to increase motorist and pedestrian awareness of highway-railroad grade crossing safety. There will be fliers for all drivers and a few gifts for  kids as well.
