  • World Ocean’s Day Celebration at Santa Fe Zoo

    The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo is hosting a celebration of the world's oceans for the entire family from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be activities for both kids and adults, including crafts and fun, informative sessions about the oceans and Florida-specific animals such as the manatee.
    Learn about sustainable seafood and ways to protect and preserve the world's oceans. This year's theme is based on the Dr. Seuss book, "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish," and there will be colorful illustrations throughout the zoo.

    School Board ESE meeting
    The School Board of Levy County, through its Exceptional Student Education department, is in the process of reviewing and surveying needs for services within the school district for the upcoming 2011-12 school year.

  • Levy County 4-H hosts variety of summer camps

    Levy County 4-H will host several camps at the Bronson Agricultural Center from June 13-Aug. 19. Campers must be at least 8-years-old by June 1. The cost is $25 per camp, or $50 for ATV camp. Camps are Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Camp fee includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, field trips and recreation.

    Library after school movie
    The Luther Callaway Public Library will have an after school program with a movie and popcorn at 5 p.m. The movie is the 2010 remake of the movie Gulliver's Travels starring Jack Black, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt. The 85-minute film is rated PG for brief rude humor, mild language and action.

    Legion membership meeting
    American Legion Post 91 will have its regular membership meeting with dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the meeting. New officers for 2011-12 will be announced. All members and prospective members are invited. The post is located at 4200 South U.S. Highway 129 between Trenton and Bell next to the FFA Arena.

  • Birding walk for visually impaired

       The Friends of the Lower Suwannee Refuge will host a birding walk for visually impaired individuals on Monday. Meet at 8 a.m. at the River Trail parking area of County Road 347, just south of Fowler's Bluff. Turn at the Lower Suwannee Refuge "River Trail and Offices" sign, and the trail is a quarter mile down on the right.
