    Pancake, sausage breakfast benefit
    The Levy County Tax Collector's Office is having a benefit pancake breakfast for the Heddins Family from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Levy County Courthouse.
    Proceeds will be used to help defray the medical bills for James & Michelle Heddins' daughter Ashley, and she is undergoing her fourth round of chemotherapy. The latest treatment is working, according to the family, and in coming months she will begin the Stem Cell Transplant.

  • Saturday expo helps prepare residents for disaster

       The Levy County Public Safety & Hurricane Preparedness Expo, sponsored by the Levy County Department of Public Safety, will be Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Williston Airport. Admission is free.
       There will be demonstrations of vehicle extrications using the Jaws of Life and working dogs for Search  and Rescue and the Sheriffs’ Office.
    Displays will include ambulances, fire trucks, helicopters, hazardous materials equipment, police cars, a medical simulator lab and forestry equipment from several counties.

  • Library friends meet Thursday

       The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library  Board of Directors, will hold their monthly meeting at the Library, 104 NE 3rd Street, Chiefland (a block behind City Hall), at 11 a.m. today.

    What difference can a single blood donation make? One figure frequently cited is that one pint of blood can save up to three lives, since it can provide three lifesaving products: red blood cells, plasma and platelets.  

  • May Day Extravaganza on May 26

       The 29th Annual May Day Extravaganza, sponsored by the Chiefland Men's Club, will be Saturday, May 26, from noon to 6 p.m. at Buie Park.
       The event promises fun for the whole family. Children should bring their swim suits to play in the water games.

  • 20th annual car show at Ayers center

       The Early Ford V-8 Club of America Suwannee River Region No. 140 will celebrate its 20th anniversary  of sponsoring the Annual Antique Car Show at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
       The show is for cars from 1987 and earlier. Dash plaques, Best of Show and People's Choice awards to the Top 20 cars will be awarded. Judging will be by participants in the show.  The registration fee to show a car is $15 per vehicle.
    All proceeds will be donated to charity and admission to the event is free.

  • Suwannee River Garden Club

       It is time to start planning for the 2012-2013 club year.  New officers will be elected at the next meeting of the Suwannee River Garden Club on Monday, April 30.  The club is made up of members from Dixie, Gilchrist and Levy Counties. They meet in the Fanning Springs Community Center located behind the Catallic Motel at 7 p.m.
