  • Butterflies in refuge topic of Feb. 11 talk

    Barbara Woodmansee will give a presentation about the butterflies in the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge at 10:30 a.m. at the Cedar Key Library.  The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge.

  • Wings and Wheels to fly through Williston

    Get your engines revving for a good cause as the first City of Williston Wings and Wheels fly-in and car show zips into town March 3 as a fund-raiser for the Levy Association of Retarded Citizens (LARC).
    The day starts at the Williston Municipal Airport with a fly in. All pilots who want to show off their aircraft are encouraged to attend, said one of the event  organizers, Dennis Strow.
    If you like having your feet on the ground, bring your classic car and showcase your pride and joy, alongside the aircraft.

  • Chiefland FFA chili cook-off, cake auction Friday

    The Chiefland FFA Alumni are having their 3rd Annual Homemade Chili Cook-Off on Friday, Feb. 3, at the Chiefland High School Ag. Building.  Cost is $15 per entry and this also includes the hot dog/chili meal.
    Check-in time for entrants is 4:45 p.m., with a minimum of one gallon of chili. Prizes will be awarded.  Hot dog/chili meals will be sold to the general public for $5, beginning at 5:30.

    Barkhouse featured at Cedar Keyhole Gallery
    Taking nothing more than the flotsam and jetsam of our native waters and estuaries, Joey Barkhouse has been able to create intricate works of art. A stray rock or piece of driftwood magically transform into owls or fish. Her carvings and rock paintings have become legend in the area and Joey is willing to work into the night to meet the growing demands of her fans. Barkhouse will have her latest works on display at the Cedar Keyhole for the entire month of January.

  • Orchids: the ultimate flower

       Join Ed and Lynn Bugbee in a lecture on orchids Feb 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the Dunnellon Public Library, located at 20351 Robinson Road.
       The lecture is free.

    Neil Simon’s hit comedy "Rumors" opens tonight at Ocala Civic Theatre and runs through Jan.15. It's a lightning-quick farce full of fast-paced banter, zany physical comedy and explosions galore.  The zingers fly like bullets in this crazy show, widely regarded as one of Neil Simon’s funniest work.

  • Blood drive in Old Town

    LifeSouth and the community of Old Town invite you to be a part of saving lives when they team up to host a blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 14 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Hitchcock’s Foodway.  Donors are entered into a drawing to win an iPad2 on Jan. 31.

    World War II Veterans will start the new year at a meeting on Jan. 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Akins Bar-B-Q and Grill in Bell. May this year be prosperous and a healthy year for you and yours. All WW II veterans are welcome to join us. Bring your spouse, a friend or a fellow veteran and join in the camaraderie.

    of Central Florida
    The Ocala Model Railroaders and private collector Bruce Richardson are partnering with the College of Central Florida to again present the 16th Annual Trains at the Holidays with exciting layouts and models with historic and holiday themes.
    The exhibit at the Webber Gallery of the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road, opens on Thursday, Dec. 15.
