    The Ocala Model Railroaders and private collector Bruce Richardson are partnering with the College of Central Florida to again present the 16th Annual Trains at the Holidays with exciting layouts and models with historic and holiday themes.
    The exhibit at the Webber Gallery of the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road, opens on Thursday, Dec. 15.

  • The Great Suwannee River Clean-up: the last 20 miles

      The Great Suwannee River Clean-up, initiated and coordinated by Current Problems’ Executive Director Fritzi Olson, is nearing the end of the historic river, and the 2011 clean-up.  The last 20 miles will be tackled by the Lower Suwannee NWR, the Friends of the Lower Suwannee & Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges, and all the volunteers they can muster.

    Clay Landing Days at Manatee Springs

    To celebrate the living history of this beautiful first magnitude spring, Manatee Springs State Park, with the help of the park’s Citizens Support Organization-The Friends of Manatee Springs Parks, Inc, present Clay Landing Days on Nov. 25-26. The event features rides through the north trail system, where visitors will experience the lifestyle of early settlers and Seminole Indians.

    World War II vets group
     celebrates 20 years
    The World War II Veterans Club will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their existence at the Moose Lodge in Fanning Springs at 11:15 a.m.
    This will also remind all of the upcoming anniversary of Pearl Harbor. It has been 70 years since the beginning of WWII. If you are a veteran of this war, mark your calendar and join the group on this special day.
    Bring your spouse, a care giver or designated driver. Lunch is free to all WWII veterans.

  • Library friends to meet

       The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at the Library, 104 N.E. 3rd Street, in Chiefland, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10.  
       The Luther Callaway Public Library is the Chiefland Branch of the Levy County Public Library System.

  • Bill Roberts Retrospective Saturday

    Bill Roberts is a local artist who will have a retrospective of his work at the Cedar Key Arts Center during the month of November. The opening will be the first Saturday of the month from 5-7 p.m.

     

  • Those crazy jumping sturgeon, what’s it all about?

    The Friends of the Lower Suwannee & Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges host Dr. Ken Sulak, U.S. Geological Survey at 5 p.m. Today at the Cedar Key Public Library for a talk on the Suwannee River's sturgeon.
    The Suwannee River supports the largest population of the Gulf Sturgeon, a species unique to Gulf Coast rivers. The Gulf Sturgeon, a member of an ancient group of fish, and the largest fish — up to eight-feet long and 200 pounds — inhabiting the Suwannee River, signals the health of the ecosystem.
