  • Players hold auditions for “Little Shop of Horrors”

    Open auditions for "Little Shop of Horrors," a musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Meken, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Chief Theater in downtown Chiefland. Those auditioning need to be prepared with a musical number. 

    Cast needed are: Seymour - 20 to 30 years old; Audrey - 20 to 30 years old; Orin - 25 to 35 years old; Audrey II (the plant, non speaking); Audrey II (the voice); Crystal, Ronnette, Chiffon - 20 to 30 years old (chorus). A second audition and callbacks will be held on Tuesday Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Chief.

  • Great Suwannee River Cleanup on Saturday, Dec. 1

    The next phase of the Great Suwannee River Cleanup sponsored by Current Problems Organization, will be Saturday Dec. 1, starting at 10 a.m.

    Groups will deploy from three locations, Camp Azalea/Yellow Jacket, Fowlers Bluff and the Town of Suwannee.

    Scarecrow City display

    Scarecrow City, a project sponsored by the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce, is on exhibit at Trailhead Park on U.S. Highway 19 South in Chiefland.  Businesses and community groups created the displays. 



  • LARC cleans house

    The Levy ARC Thrift Store is having its annual Clean Sweep sale on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be lots of bargains. 

       The store will also be selling fish dinners for $6 each. The meal includes fried mullet, baked beans, cole slaw and hush puppies.

  • Library Friends to meet

  • Gulf Hammock author to sign books


    Dr. Jack Foley will be autographing and selling copies of his recently published book, “Those Were the Times,” a collection of stories about life in Gulf Hammock, at Treasure Camp on the Suwannee River in Fowlers Bluff, on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

       Foley, who was born and raised in Gulf Hammock and has a doctorate in mathematics, was a professor at Florida Atlantic University. Now retired, he has chronicled life in Guf Hammock when he was growing up. 

  • Free evening of bluegrass

    The Dixie County Historical Society will be hosting another evening of Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music for your enjoyment on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the “Old” Old Town Elementary School Auditorium located at State Road 349 and County Road 55A. Big Cypress Bluegrass will be performing. The music will start at 6 p.m. and will finish when the music stops. Admission is free, so bring the family and enjoy.
