  • Correction: Bronson homemakers bingo on Thursday

    An incorrect date was publiched in the May 17 issue of the Chiefland Citizen for the Bronson Home and Community Educators club's annual bingo

    The event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Levy County Extension Center. The cost is $5 for two cards and $1 for two additional cards.
    The club will provide drinks and dessert and there wil be prizes. For more information, call Dee Olsen at 486-2319.

  • Log Cabin Quilters for May 17

    The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, May 10, at the Levy County Quilt Museum. A lot of the members were away with doctor visits, vacations and whatever. We’re hoping everyone will be back with us next week.
    Greg and six boys were out and boy did they get a lot of work done. The porch looks terrific after they cleaned and got rid of some of the old spools that were beginning to show their age. Thanks Lancaster.

  • Church News for the week of May 17

    Parson's Memorial Presbyterian dinner Friday
       Parsons Memorial Presbyterian Church, Yankeetown, will have a pulled pork dinner on Friday from 4-6 p.m.
       A $6 donation is requested for a dinner of pulled pork, chips, baked beans, coleslaw, drink and dessert.
    There will also be a drawing for a $50 money tree.

  • Blueberry festival to benefit animals

       The first Blueberry Festival to benefit Sheltering Hands Rescue will be Sunday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ramada Conference Center, 3810 N.W. Bonnie Heath Blvd., Ocala.
       The even will have arts and crafts, prizes, plants, food and fresh blueberries, along with a 50/50 raffle, book sale, mini therapy pigs, the Brick City Oil Slickers the VW Club, demonstrations by the Ocala K-9 Unit, and Ocala Carriage rides, the Rowdy Boys Barbershop Quartet and crowning of the “Blueberry Princess” and lots more.

  • Levy County 4-H offers beginning sewing camps

       What are you doing July 2 through 6? We’re having a Beginning Sewing Camp at the Levy County Agricultural Center in Bronson. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. except on Fridays when it ends at noon. Lunch and snacks are provided. You must have been 8 years old by Sept. 1, 2011. There is a limit of 6 spots.

  • Poker run May 26 benefits Fisher House

       The 2nd Annual Poker Run sponsored by the AMVETS Post 88 Auxiliary will be on Saturday,  May 26, with proceeds going to Fisher House in Gainesville.
       The ride will start at AMVETS Post 88,  10050 N.E. State Road 24. The pre-registration fee is $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. Registration the day of the ride begins at 9 a.m. and will be $15 per rider and $5 per passenger.
       Kickstands will be up at 11.30 a.m.

    Pancake, sausage breakfast benefit
    The Levy County Tax Collector's Office is having a benefit pancake breakfast for the Heddins Family from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Levy County Courthouse.
    Proceeds will be used to help defray the medical bills for James & Michelle Heddins' daughter Ashley, and she is undergoing her fourth round of chemotherapy. The latest treatment is working, according to the family, and in coming months she will begin the Stem Cell Transplant.

  • Saturday expo helps prepare residents for disaster

       The Levy County Public Safety & Hurricane Preparedness Expo, sponsored by the Levy County Department of Public Safety, will be Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Williston Airport. Admission is free.
       There will be demonstrations of vehicle extrications using the Jaws of Life and working dogs for Search  and Rescue and the Sheriffs’ Office.
    Displays will include ambulances, fire trucks, helicopters, hazardous materials equipment, police cars, a medical simulator lab and forestry equipment from several counties.
