  • Chiefland Billiards Benefit Pool Tournament and Car Show June 17

    The Tri-county Chapter of the  Disabled American Veterans is hosting a pool tournament and car show on June 17, at 1 p.m. The event will include door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and a benefit lunch. It takes place at Chiefland Billards at 1545 N.W. 26th Ave in Chiefland. Proceeds benefit 20-year-old Casie Wharton, who has suffered from Type 2 Autoimmune Hepatitis since she was four. She recently received a liver transplant and has nearly $6,000 in medical expenses every month for further treatments.

    Leather show at Cedar Key gallery
    Corrine Ryan has been carving, shaping, chiseling and punching leather for over 20 years. Her works range from three-dimensional portraits to earrings and pet leashes. She has her latest creations on display at the Cedar Keyhole throughout the month of June. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    The Cedar Keyhole, located on 2nd Street [across from the Library] in Cedar Key, also maintains a display of many other works by over 20 contributors to its artists’ cooperative.

    Join the Withlacoochee Area Residents for their Second Saturday Concert Series.  The Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, 4150 S. Suncoast Blvd.,  Homosassa is the place to be Saturday, June 9, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The Pepper Creek Terrace Room on the second floor of the visitor center will be the setting for the talented group at 2 p.m.

  • Library friends book sale as big as watermelons at festival

    The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library in Chiefland will conduct its semi-annual book sale in conjunction with the Chiefland Watermelon Festival on Saturday.  There will be hundreds of hardcover books, paperbacks, audio books, videos and children's books for sale at great prices—most for less than a dollar and some for much less.
       Buy a reusable fabric tote bag for $5 and take away as many books, not specially priced, etc., as it will hold. Some old and rare books will be available at market prices.

    Public Library sale
    The Friends Book Store, operated by the Friends of the Dunnellon Library, announces the “June Jubalee Book Sale”  with hard-cover books for $1 and paperbacks for 25 cents. This pricing does not include specially priced books.
    The inventory changes daily depending on book donations. All proceeds benefit the Dunnellon Public Library.

  • Trevis Prince’s youth hit songwriting workshop at Bronson library

    A free songwriting workshop with Trevis Prince will be held at the Bronson Public Library on May 30 at 6 p.m.
    Students will be introduced to fundamental techniques behind today’s hit songs with easy and fun to follow exercises. The songwriting workshop offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the art of songwriting at any level. The Friends of the Bronson Public Library will be providing free pizza and drinks after the workshop. Seats are limited so please call the library to reserve your spot today.

  • Dinner, dessert auction benefit cheerleaders

       The Chiefland High School cheerleading squad is hosting a cake and pie auction and a spaghetti supper to raise money for  uniforms and equipment.
       The event will be on Tuesday, May 29 in the Chiefland High School Cafateria. Meal service is at 5 p.m. and the auction is at 6 p.m. Dinners cost $5 each.  Spaghetti tickets can be purchased at Chiefland High School or at the door.

    Transportation disadvantaged board meeting
    The Levy County Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board will conduct its regular business meeting at 10 a.m. at  the Levy County Courthouse in the County Commissioners’ Board Room, 355 S. Court Street, Bronson.

    Bronson homemakers annual bingo
    The Bronson Home and Community Educators club will host its annual bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Levy County Extension Center. The cost is $5 for two cards and $1 for two additional cards.
