  • A pigskin reminder: it’s time to donate blood

    With summer vacations now behind us and the biggest season of all —football— just ahead, it’s a good time to think about donating blood.

  • Coming in October at the Chief Theater

    "The Haunting of Hill House," by F. Andrew Leslie and based on the novel by Shirley Jackson, will be coming to the Chief Theater, home of the Suwannee Valley Players this October.

  • A Day to Remember

    The Chiefland area DAV (Disabled American Veterans) will be honoring A Day to Remember this weekend. The group will be in front of Winn Dixie in Chiefland on  Friday through Sunday, Sept. 20-22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The group will be honoring POWs (Prisoners of War) and MIAs (those Missing In Action) as well handing out Forget Me Nots. Organizers stress that any contributions they receive remain in the Tri-County area and goes to our area veterans.

  • Poker run Saturday

    A poker run to benefit The Children's Table, in Bronson, is on Saturday.

    The ride will begin at Gainesville Harley Davidson with registration at 1:30 p.m. and will then proceed through various parts of Levy County, ending at MacKenzie's 4 Corners in Bronson.

       Drivers pay $10 per hand. Passengers pay $5 per hand. There will be lots of prizes, a band and free barbecue at the finish.

    The Florida Museum of Natural History will celebrate its eighth annual ButterflyFest Oct. 19-20.

  • Sea Cadets event Saturday

    Manatee Division celebrates Sea Cadet Month with an “Open Ship” event at the Coast Guard Station in Yankeetown on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., with games, team building exercises and other activities.

  • Save the date

    For the seventh consecutive year, the north central Florida town of Trenton will be ablaze with quilts flying from shops, businesses and government buildings up and down Main Street and beyond.  The 2014 date set for Trenton’s Suwannee Valley Quilt Festival, Florida’s only outdoor quilt show, is set for March 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Self defense class for women Saturday

    The Rape Aggression Women's Physical Defense program (R.A.D.) will take place Saturday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the College of Central Florida Levy Center at 114 Rogerts Blvd., in Chiefland.

  • 19th Annual Tommy Usher Log-a-Load for Kids Golf Classic

    Play golf to help children with a cure. That's simply enough.

    The 19th Annual Tommy Usher Log-A-Load for kids Golf Classic, benefiting Children's Miracle Network at UF Health Shand’s children’s hospital, begins at Chiefland Golf & Country Club at 8 a.m. Registration and practice is at 8:30 a.m. Teams have shotgun start-morning round, lunch and program at noon, afternoon round shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. and reception, winner announcements and grand prize drawing at 6.
