  • Disabled vets host cookout

    On Saturday, July 16, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Tri-County Chapter 63  is hosting a Fundraising Cookout.  It is a day of fun, with music by local “DJ Nasty”, free prizes, and a menu of hamburgers/hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw or potato salad for only $6. Drinks will be available too.  We will begin serving at 11 a.m. and continue  through 2 p.m. at Chantilly Place Salon, 310 Main Ave. Bronson, across from  Drummond Bank in Bronson

    The North Central Florida Regional Planning Council meets on Thursday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. (dinner at 7:00 p.m.) at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 213 N.W. Commerce Blvd., Lake City. 

    The guest speaker will be Jerry Parrish, chief economist and director of research of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

    Free CPR Certification class — Wednesday, May 18, 4-6 p.m. at the Tri-County Community Resource Center at 15 N. Main St., Chiefland.

    Class instruction is sponsored by Central Florida Electric Cooperative and the cost of certification is sponsored by the local Children’s Partnership Council. You must be registered to attend.

    FHP job fair for Troopers

    The Florida Highway Patrol will be opening its doors after regular business hours on Thursday, May 5, for a job fair at the Cross City FHP Station. Anyone interested in a career as a state trooper is urged to visit the station between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m.

  • Pet adoption event May 7

    Levy County Animal Services is holding an adoption event on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tractor Supply in Chiefland, according to David Weatherford, the department's director.

    There will also be hotdogs and sodas provided for prospective adopters.

    To help more pets fund their fur-ever homes, the Levy County Commission has approved lower fees for the event:

    • Dogs - $40 for males and $55 for females.

    • Cats - $25 for males and $40 for females.
