  • American Legion auction and bake sale May 21

    On Saturday, May 21, American Legion Post 236 of Bronson and the Auxiliary are uniting for a Quarter Auction/Bake Sale as a fundraiser starting at 2:00 p.m. sharp until 3:30 p.m.

  • Williston Lions host weekend of arts, crafts, barbecue

    The Williston Lions Club will present its Arts & Crafts Show/Flea Market and barbecue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday May 6, 7 and 8th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lions' clubhouse at 401 SE 6th Avenue in Williston.

    Local artists will display their work along with crafting vendors showcasing creative supplies and equipment. Proceeds help support the Lions continuing efforts in our community.   • Pet adoption event May 7

    Levy County Animal Services is holding an adoption event on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tractor Supply in Chiefland, according to David Weatherford, the department's director.

    There will also be hotdogs and sodas provided for prospective adopters.

    To help more pets fund their fur-ever homes, the Levy County Commission has approved lower fees for the event:

    • Dogs - $40 for males and $55 for females.

    • Cats - $25 for males and $40 for females.

    Citrus hospice holds volunteer training

    Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast will conduct its next General Orientation for new volunteers on Thursday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 304 N. Main St. in Chiefland.

    This prepares volunteers to assist in our offices, at the Thrift & Gift Shoppe, at Herry's Café and in community outreach work.

    To assist patients and their families, you will also need to complete the Patient Support Training Class, offered separately.

  • Poker Run to benefit volunteer firefighters

    A poker run is being held this weekend to benefit volunteer firefighters in Bronson.

    The AMVETS Riders Chapter 88 in Bronson will be hosting the event that is open to the public on Saturday with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m.

    “I think it’s great. I’m glad to see someone in the community going above and beyond to help the volunteer fire department,” Bronson Fire Chief Dennis Russell said in a telephone interview.

  • DAV poker run on Saturday

    The Disabled American Veterans local chapter is holding a poker run on Saturday, April 16 starting t 10:30 a.m. at Bett's Big T in Chiefland.

    Other stops are: Willards in Williston, continue to  Los Avina in Archer and Cherry's Seafood & Steak in Trenton, then finish at Beef O' Brady's in Chiefland.

    Registration fee is $20/ extra poker hand $10, Raffle Tickets are available: one for $1 or six for $5 and you do not have to  be present to win.

    The proceeds from the Tri-County Chapter 63 run will go to veterans.
