    CF closed for winter break

    All College of Central Florida campuses and centers will be closed for winter break Friday, Dec. 19, through Thursday, Jan. 1.

    The CF Bookstore, CF Foundation, CF Printing Services and CF Postal Services will be open during limited hours, which are available at  www.CF.edu.

    The college will re-open Friday, Jan. 2. Spring 2015 classes begin Jan.6.

  • Toys for Tots distribution

    Toys distribution for all registered children will be held Saturday Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chiefland Walmart.

    Due to a small number of registered children, we will only be having one consolidated registration event. We do not anticipate having a “make-up” date but will readdress this later if necessary.

     All paper registrations will be collected this week and turned in for organizing and finalizing the counts. Online registrations will continue through this Friday at http://j1edit.com/toys/

  • LARC sale

    The LARC Thrift Store, in Chiefland, is having an "all-you-can-get-into-a-bag-for-$1" sale from now until Dec. 31.

       The store is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a good opportunity for Christmas bargains.

  • AARP driving course

       The AARP Driver Safety Course for Seniors will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Capital City Bank Board Room, 2012 North Young Blvd., Chiefland.

       The certificate is valid for a discount on automobile insurance policies for three years. There are no tests.

     Registration is required by calling Linda at 352-493-1742.

  • Christmas at the library

    Children of all ages are invited to attend a fun celebration of Christmas. Come listen to a Christmas Story, make crafts, enjoy refreshments, and have pictures taken with Santa! Plan to arrive early

    to see Santa. The pictures will be printed at the party for free.

  • "Curious Savage" opens Friday

    The Suwannee Valley Players, in conjunction with the Chief Theater, will debut John Patrick’s comedy “The Curious Savage” on Friday, Dec. 5, with continued performances Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 12-14.

    Laughter abounds when Mrs. Savage and her adult stepchildren have very different ideas about how to best use the millions of dollars left by her late husband. This play is presented by special arrangements with Dramatists Play Service.

  • Tin canners to converge at Cedar Key

    Tin Can Tourists will turn out in droves at Sunset Isle RV Park and Motel at the beginning of December.

       In years past, "tin canners," as they call themselves, have come from as far away as New York, Michigan and Wisconsin to camp and show off their vintage RVs that span several decades.

       Most have been restored or are in the process of being restored, said Bruce Wilson, co-owner of Ada Blue Cafe, located near the RV park.

  • Drummond bake sale something to give thanks for

    Please join Haven Hospice on Wednesday, Nov. 26 as Drummond Community Bank holds their annual holiday bake sale starting at 8:30 a.m.

    Purchase delicious cakes, pies and other sweets to add to your Thanksgiving feast.  The baked goods are donations from the community and all purchases made that day will benefit Haven Hospice.

  • Aquatic Dream

    The Two Hawk County Circus is this year partnering with the Florida Springs Institute to raise awareness of Florida's aquatic ecosystems.

    The event, which features musical acts, arts and crafts vendors, equestrian performances and the Gainesville Youth Circus, will take place Nov. 22, from 2 - 10 p.m., at the Two Hawk Hammock in Williston — near Devil's Den Spring.
