  • Reserve your space today for State Archives trip

    On Wednesday, May 27, the Historical Society has planned a one day trip to the Florida State Archives and Library in Tallahassee.

    While at the Archives, the group will tour “behind the scenes” conducted by one of the Florida State Archivists.

    The tour will be conducted in the restricted stacks area of the Archives. In this area, researchers will learn more about the records the Archives collects and also be shown preservation methods and view little known record collections of interest available to local and family history researchers.

  • Walk for Angels Community Dog Walk

     Amvets Ladies Auxiliary 88 is hosting a four mile dog walk along the Nature Coast State Trail beginning at Fort Fanning Historical Park in Fanning Springs. It begins at 10:30 a.m. and entry is $15 per person (dogs are free). All proceeds benefit Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc. Lunch (and dog treats), t-shirts and bandanas will be available to show your support.

    Movie Night at Fort Fanning

       Fanning Springs is hosting a movie night on Friday, May 8, at Fort Fanning Historical Park. Free fingerprinting will be available for kids beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the movie, “Big Hero Six,” will begin at sunset, around 8 p.m.

    Bring your blanket or lawn chair. Concessions will be available or moviegoers may bring a picnic dinner. No glass containers, alcohol or tobacco products are permitted.

  • Cemetery cleanup set for Saturday in Bronson

    Cemetery Cleanup at Jim Milton Cemetery off of Main St. Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Bring rakes and pressure washers if you have them.

  • Hudson, Kirkland, Sims reunion is Saturday

    The Hudson, Kirkland and Sims family reunion will be held Saturday, April 25 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Long Pond Church and Cemetery, Chiefland.

    Bring chairs and tables.

  • Rose show in Gainesville

    The Gainesville Rose Society presents its 42nd Rose Show, "The Internet of Roses," on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Celebration United Methodist Church, 9501 S.W. Archer Road, Gainesville.

    See hundreds of specimen roses, many arrangements, and learn how easy it is to grow beautiful roses.  Potted roses and cut roses will be available for sale. For more information, visit gainesvillerosesociety.com.

    The Levy County Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board will conduct its regular business meeting on Thursday, April 16, at 10 a.m. in the Levy County Courthouse in the County Commissioners’ Board Room, at 355 S. Court St., Bronson.

    The board meeting is open to the public.

    Friends of Luther Calloway Library meet

    The Friends of the Luther Calloway Public Library meet on the second Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. at the library to see how they can help the library by augmenting the funds available for books, DVDs, etc. Each year the Friends have two used book sales.
