World War II Veterans will start the new year at a meeting on Jan. 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Akins Bar-B-Q and Grill in Bell. May this year be prosperous and a healthy year for you and yours. All WW II veterans are welcome to join us. Bring your spouse, a friend or a fellow veteran and join in the camaraderie.
We enjoyed our December meeting at the Island Room in Cedar Key in December. The food was outstanding and the weather was perfect. Wayland Wadley was raised in Cedar Key and talked about the early days there. He brought a slough of beautiful pictures. Waylan is also very "crafty" and displayed a lighted Christmas tree he made with the use of fish line.
May 2012 be an outstanding year for our country. "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me". God bless all of our veterans for the price they've paid for our freedoms and the price they continue to pay.
Our sympathies to the family's of two of our members, Pauline Barton, 94, retired as a professor of Nursing at UF, she served with the U.S. Army; and Virgil Sirmons, 91, U.S. Marine Corps who is survived by Betty, his wife of 64 years.
