Winnelle Frances Horne

Founded Levy County Quilt Museum

Frances Winnelle Horne, 87, of Chiefland died Monday, .Jan. 30, 2012.
The only daughter and youngest child of James Dillard Mercer and Frances Folsom (Horne) Mercer, she was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Levy.  The family lived across the road from where the quilt museum is today.
She is survived by her son, Alton Reginald Chapman (Reggie) and wife Gale; her nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Horne; four of her children, John Randolph Chapman, George Robert Chapman, Frances Ruth Chapman and Gerald Randolph Wall; three brothers, James L. Engle (Chris) Mercer, Willis Murray (Bert) Mercer and James D. Mercer.
By her request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Levy County Quilt Museum:  11050 NW 10th Ave.  Chiefland, Florida 32626.
She was an active member of the Chiefland Women’s Club, the Curryville Homemakers, founder and director of Levy County Quilt Museum and director of the Log Cabin Quilters.
A public visitation will be held at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, Chiefland Friday, Feb. 3 from 5-7 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the Levy County Quilt Museum, 11050 NW 10th Ave. Chiefland Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m.
