Jamie Whitehurst won the Chiefland Golf and Country Club's 37th Annual Rye Grass Golf Tournament on Sunday, the second year in a row he has done so.
The club held the annual scramble for the tournament on Thursday, Oct. 11, and the tournament play was Friday through Sunday.
Dick Tummond, club manager, said the weather was cooperative with sunny skies and moderate temperatures during play.
There were 100 golfers in the Gold, Women's and Men's Flights, a dip from last year's registration. “I think the numbers are down due to the economy,” Tummond said.
The tournament is held annually to finance the club's planting of rye grass to keep the grass a lush green throughout the fall and winter months.
In addition to winning the tournament, Whitehurst also walked away with the prize for the longest drive. Also placing in the longest drive were Jeff Venable and Buddy Arendall.
The straightest drive award went to Robert Gheesling, followed by Wifield Tillis and Phil Snyder.
The winner of the closest to the pin award was Jerry Ingram, followed by Kent Welborn.
