The Chiefland City Commission approved a $9,000 pay increase for the fire chief to $50,000 annual pay.
The chief said when he took the job he did not realize how time consuming it was, how it would deeply affect his personal life, and that he has obtained new certifications — as a firefighter II and is traing for emergency medical technician. He also said the increase would bring his pay in line with that of other city department head pay levels.
The city commission agreed with his argument and granted it 4-1 with Mayor Teal Pomeroy dissenting.
