Students take second round of H1N1 flu spray this week  

A second round of free H1N1 (Swine) flu nasal spray vaccinations will be provided by the Levy County Health Department for Levy County students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

Consent forms that were sent home with students must be completed by a parent/guardian and returned to the school in order for a student to receive the vaccination.

    • Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Bronson Elementary, Joyce Bullock Elementary and Williston Elementary Schools

        • Wednesday, Jan. 13 - Yankeetown School

        • Thursday, Jan. 14 - Chiefland Elementary, Whispering Winds Charter School and Cedar Key School

  Monday

Chiefland City Commission meets at 5:50 p.m. at City Hall, 214 E. Park Ave. to evaluate City Manager Grady Hartzog and negotiation his annual contract.

The commission will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. to honor the students of the month for December, two city employees for their service, consider a landscape ordinance, annexing the 33-acre Drummond Field wellhead, and costs in taking credit and debit cards for utility payments.

  Tuesday-Wednesday  

The Chiefland City Commission meets in special session at 6 p.m. each day at City Hall, 214 E. Park Ave., to interview six finalists for the position of city fire chief.

    Wednesday Have breakfast with the superintendent  

    Levy County Schools Foundation will host five "Breakfast with the Superintendent" events throughout Levy County giving residents in  each community an opportunity to meet with Superintendent Bob Hastings, increase awareness of the LCSF projects and serve as a foundation fundraiser.  A buffet-style breakfast will be followed by comments from Hastings and a question and answer session. Tickets will be sold in advance of the Superintendent Breakfast in Bronson, Cedar Key, Chiefland, Williston and Yankeetown.

 

    The first Breakfast with the Superintendent will be 7:30 a.m. at the Williston Woman's Club on State Road 121, just outside of Williston.  Tickets are $10 per person and are available at Capital City Bank and Perkins State Bank main branch in Williston, or at the Levy County Schools Foundation office in Bronson.  For more information, call 352-486-3408 or email lcsf@levy.k12.fl.us

    Thursday   Friends of the Chiefland library meet

The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library (FLCPL), the Chiefland Branch of the Levy County Public Library System, will hold their monthly meeting at the Library, 104 NE 3rd Street, Chiefland (a block behind City Hall), at 11:00 a.m. on January 14.  The FLCPL supports the Luther Callaway Public Library by promoting the Library’s programs and resources and through fund-raising projects to augment the Library’s budget for the purchase of reading materials, books on tape, videos, operating supplies and minor equipment.  Prospective members and guests are welcome at the meeting.  For further information, call FLCPL president Tom Reitz at 493-1896 or 949-5413.

    Friday   American Legion Jackpot Bingo  

The American Legion of Levy County will be holding its weekly Jackpot Bingo at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served by the Auxiliary at 6 p.m. for $5. The post is located just southeast of Bronson at 9550 N.E. U.S. Highway 27A.

    The Suwannee River Shrine Club will hold its semimonthly country breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse on State Road 26, about a half mile north of Fanning Springs.

 

    The menu includes sausage, eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes and coffee for $5.50 per person. This event is open to the public.

  Citrus County Tea Party rallies in Inverness

The Cirtus County Tea Party will rally from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old Historical Courthouse, One Courthouse Square,

Inverness.

Marco Rubio, who has gained national recognition as a candidate for U. S. Senate will be speaking.  There will also be  other great speakers that will be discussing important and timely issues.

  Benefit for Legion Auxiliary member

   The American Legion Post 383, its Auxiliary and SAL will be having a benefit for Aux. member, Cat Dobbs, at noon.  The menu includes will have barbecued chicken and rib dinners for $5 donation for each. 

    This benefit is to help with medical expenses incurred by Cat Dobbs who was badly injured in a fall at her home recently.  Dobbs is still hospitalized but is expected to recover.

    There will be horseshoes, games, 50/50's and live music all afternoon and night.

    Ongoing Guardian ad litem program

    Volunteer to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the court system.  In Levy County, there are about 80 children in the child welfare system.  Help ensure these children are heard and not forgotten. No legal background is necessary.

  American Legion Post 383 karaoke on Saturdays

    American Legion Post 383 in Old Town has karaoke with Stacy every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Prospective members and volunteers are also welcome. Post 383 is for all veterans and their families.

  TOPS meeting

    The Chiefland TOPS group meets at St. Albans church on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Both  men and women are welcome.

  Rotary Clubs

    Chiefland Rotary meets at noon Wednesdays at BubbaQue’s, Main Street, Chiefland.

    Williston Rotary meets at 11:45 a.m. Tuesdays at the First Presbyterian Church, 247 NE 1st Street.

  Grand Slam Bridge on Mondays

    Grand Slam Bridge, with two tables in play, is held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Chiefland on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those interested in participating are asked to call Joan at 493-0279.

    Both weekly and substitute players are needed.
