Unemployment in Levy County dropped by 0.6 percentage points from July's 12.1 percent to 11.5 percent in August, according to the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation.
In neighboring Alachua County the rate dipped from 7.7 percent in July to 7.2, while Marion County posted an increase of 0.3 percent rising to 12.9 percent. Citrus County had an 11.9 percent unemployment rate, a drop of .1 percent. Statewide, unemployment was 10.7 percent in August with 984,000 Floridians out of work. The national rate was 9.7 percent up 0.3 of a percentage point from July and 3.5 points from one year ago.
The number of unemployed individuals decreased from 2,072 to 1,974 in Levy County. The county had a labor force of 17,173 in August. The county ranked 23rd in unemployment among the state's 67 counties.
One year ago the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent, with 1,344 people out of work in Levy County.
