A Cross Creek man who was helping his niece from Bronson pull her vehicle out of a rut died after a vehicle in the opposite lane hit him on Thursday at 8:20 p.m. on State Road 121 near Alachua County Road 346, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report..
Garrett H. Cutler, 59, was removing the chains used to pull a black 2004 Chrysler Sebring driven by Heather Crane, 19, of Bronson, from where it was stuck by the roadway. Crane's vehicle was sitting in the southbound lane and partially in the northbound lane of SR 121.
A 2010 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Landayle Jones, 24, of Gainesville, was headed northbound on 121 and collided with the Sebring and Cutler.
Cutler was pronounced dead at the scene by an member of an Alachua County Fire Department crew, according to the report by FHP Trooper Corey Burk.
Alcohol is not a factor in the accident and Crane and Jones were using seatbelts at the time of the accident.
