A Chiefland woman was seriously injured and a Trenton man suffered minor injuries when their vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 19 about 4 miles north of Chiefland at 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Sara Cole Hardee, 66, was traveling northbound on US 19 in the left lane as she approached Northwest 72ndCourt in her 2004 Nissan as Klemense Frank Stahoski, 60, was travelling in the same direction in the right lane in his 1999 Chevy Silverado. Stahoski's pickup was just behind Hardee's sedan.

Hardee slowed to turn around to assist her grandson who was with his disabled vehicle on the northbound shoulder and changed lanes. The left front of Stahoski's truck struck the right side of Hardee's sedan causing it to rotate clockwise and come to rest facing southwest on the northbound shoulder.

Hardee and Stahoski were both transported to Shands Hospital at UF Healthcare in Gainesville for treatment of their injuries.

Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Hardee was cited for an improper lane change by FHP Trooper R.L. Carmichael.
