Two people who died in an apparent murder/suicide Tuesday afternoon on Northwest 168th Lane in Fanning Springs have been identified by the Levy County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the residence of Genoveva Magnolia Recinos Castillo, 46,  by a sobbing female juvenile who told 911 operators that someone had killed her mother.
Based on information from neighbors and the child, officers located Arturo Ranferi Zacarias, 26, in a room of his residence across the street. Zacarias appeared to have died from self inflicted wounds.
Investigators learned that the two victims knew each other and information provided by friends of the families indicated that Zacarias viewed Castillo as a mother figure, having lost his mother some years before.
The Division of Children and Families was called in and the child is temporarily staying with friends. A Levy Sheriff's deputy said the child was in the home at the time of the mother's death and she was in a state of shock, but was not injured.
The case is still under investigation in attempts to identify the catalyst that sparked Zacarias to take such violent actions. Sheriff's spokseman, Lt. Scott Tummond said the investigation has encountered some cultural difficulties in that the Hispanic community views law enforcement with distrust because of experiences in their home country.
