A woman who had her one-year-old infant in her truck while she and a man purchased oxycodone was arrested March 7 on child neglect and other charges along with her companion, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
The Levy County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force conducted an undercover drug operation in the Chiefland area that resulted in the arrest of Tracy James Smith, 37, of Alachua, and Kelly Michelle Colson, 26, of Fanning Springs
Smith used a telephone to set up a drug deal, including obtaining the price of the pills, with Agent Burt Miller.  Utilizing telecommunication to set up any drug deals is a third-degree felony under state law.
The parties met beside a local business and once the purchase was complete, Smith refused to cooperate with officers, and had to be physically restrained. A search of Smith recovered a needle and a spoon in a pocket.
Smith was arrested on purchasing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of telecommunication, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest without violence.
Colson was arrested for child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Colson had three syringes and one spoon that contained a white substance residue.
The Department of Children and Families were notified and took custody of the child.
