Trenton Medical Center wants new office

-A A +A
By Jeff M. Hardison

BRONSON - Trenton Medical Center wants federal funds to build a clinic in Williston and the Levy County Board of County Commissioners unanimously agreed Dec. 4 to write a letter endorsing the application.

Eileen Senecal of Trenton Medical Center said the clinic wants a satellite office in Williston to be a primary care facility for "the working poor" and people who are poor to very poor.

The clinic is seeking a federal grant, she said, and the application is due in Washington, D.C., by Dec. 15.

Trenton Medical Center offers its service on a sliding scale from $10 to $40 for a regular visit, she said. It works with Meridian Health Care for mental health issues and with Shands of the University of Florida for primary care.

Levy County Public Health Director Barbara Locke said she endorses the program, although she wished the state would let her expand its facilities in Levy County. Levy County Commission Chairman Sammy Yearty said he felt uncomfortable endorsing the request without Locke's approval first. The County Commission has bought property for a future Public Health clinic, but the state has not come forward with a promise to build it.
