BRONSON - Another successful year of the Toys for Tots program by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in the Tri-County Area led to the distribution of toys to more than a thousand families on Dec. 13 and 14 in Levy, Gilchrist and Dixie counties.
The delivery of toys to parents in Levy County on Dec. 13 happened at First Baptist Church of Bronson. Last year, it was at First United Methodist Church of Chiefland.
Vince Arcadi, Tri-County Toys for Tots coordinator, said the distribution was moved to Bronson to make it more central for the whole county.
This marked Arcadi's eight year, he said. This year heralds the 60th anniversary for the Toys for Tots tradition of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
In 2006, Toys for Tots delivered more than 19.2 million toys to over 7.6 million children.
In the Tri-County Area this year, Vince and his wife Pat Arcadi said there were more than $16,000 worth of toys bought for needy children this year. Wal-Mart donated $1,000, she said.
