An April 16 gold tournament to be held at Chiefland Golf and County Club will benefit a scholarship fund established in memory of slain Dixie County Sheriff's Capt. Chad Reed Sr.

Reed, who was killed in the line of duty by a multiple shooting suspect on Jan. 14, is survived by a wife, Holly, and two sons, C.J., 9, and Caden, 5.

Stacy Marlow, an organizer of the event, spoke to the Chiefland Rotary Club recently and came away with a $250 donation and a $250 hole sponsorship from the group. Marlow's cousin is Reed's widow.

The scholarship will go to a graduating high school senior who will be going into public service.

Marlow said the tournament is a three-person team event that has the shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. The entry fee is $250 per team.

Lunch will be provided and there will be a silent auction, raffle drawings and mulligans for sale, according to the Chad Reed Benefit Foundation website-www.chadreedbenefit.com.

Registration and sponsorship forms can be downloaded at the foundation website.

Rotary Club member Jay Patel, owner of the Holiday Inn Express, is also participating in the fundraiser by offering a special block of rooms for $39.99 for the event.
