Tourism would go up in smoke

-A A +A

Dixie Waste Services, under a new bunch of promoters, is attempting again to build an incinerator on the Eastern edge of Dixie County. Despite continued objections from the public, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has decided to grant another two-year extension of their Air Construction Permit.
Any brief review of the 43-page application submitted shows how poorly DEP is protecting us. We saw this happen with the federal agency that failed to crack down on BP's reckless operation in deep water drilling and the federal agency that failed to shut down Massey Coal Mine on repeated safety violations. Only after dozens of deaths occur and a regional economy is wrecked does the media report the track record of these endangering companies.
