I spent much of the past spring sports season trying to avoid Levy County’s top athlete. Taylore Fuller, her soaring home runs and 1.926 slugging percentage, made it obvious she was able to do things no one around her could. And she did it nearly every game. A strike out became a bigger story than a grand slam. So I decided to try to highlight the other players on the field. While Taylore was getting stories on premier high school sports web sites like Maxpreps.com and accolades in ESPN prospect selections, I wanted to use the Chiefland Citizen to let others shine. Now it’s Taylore’s turn in her hometown newspaper.
Even with one of the best baseball prospects in America, a rising star in area girls basketball, a leader of one of the best boys’ basketball teams in Florida and a top-10 finisher in the state high jump competition, Fuller was the clear choice for our winter/spring sports Player of the Year. Every player is special on this list. Max White, the No. 73-overall pick in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, is a once-in-a-generation player. Taylore Fuller is a once in a lifetime player.
