A Citra man was arrested Wednesday and charged with shooting and wounding a man after an altercation early Sunday outside a Williston nightclub.

James Wilkerson, 36, of Citra, is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and his bond is $200,000.

The shooting occured at about 5 a.m. at 3710 N.E. 212 Court outside Williston.

Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum, in a report to the Levy County Commission on Tuesday on activities associated with an unpermitted hip hop concert planned for Saturday, mentioned the shooting.

Sheriff's Lt. Scott Tummond said the sheriff's office was notified of the shooting after Michael Sumpter, a 31-year-old man from Citra, “checked himself in at the hospital to receive treatment.” The man was transported to Munroe Regional Hospital in Ocala by private vehicle.

Tummond said the two men became involved in an altercation and “during the altercation (the suspect) fired a round from an unknown handgun, striking the victim in the left foot. He then fled the scene.”
