The Levy County Schools Foundation (LCSF) will be hosting its annual Gala on Saturday, Feb 1. The event will take place at 6 p.m., (doors open at 5:30) at the Williston Middle School. The STARS Gala (Students, Teachers, and Respected Supporters) -formerly known as the Superintendent’s Gala, is the Foundation’s premier fundraising event. For the Levy County Schools Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established in 1989 to support Levy County schools, this event has become a Levy County tradition that provides an opportunity for members of the business community, civic leaders and local residents to gather in support of local education.
An exciting evening is planned with guest speaker Florida House Representative Will Weatherford, of Wesley Chapel. Representative Weatherford was first elected in 2006 and is the current Speaker of the House. There will be a meal, exceptional student entertainment, door prizes, a silent auction and recognition of the Foundation’s Alumnus of the Year. The Gala theme this year is "Stars among us."
Schools Superintendent Bob Hastings, who will also serve as emcee for the evening, said, "The Gala not only raises funds, but also showcases the talent of our students and highlights the generous and continuing support of so many corporate and small business partners, as well as local residents who want to insure our students' academic success.”
The past thirteen Galas have raised more than $135,000 to support a variety of education-related initiatives and help the Foundation expand its mission. The proceeds of the 2014 Gala will help the Foundation support the LCSF Levy County Scholarship Program, along with 0ther projects including: literacy initiatives, classroom and school grants, teacher, staff and volunteer recognition, supplemental support of vocational, career, and technical education, STEM initiatives, tutoring and mentoring programs.
