Three of Williston’s four public schools were in secured campus mode Monday after a fatal stabbing in Alachua County.

Casey Renee Wilsey, 37, of Bronson, was stabbed sometime around 8 a.m. in the parking garage at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She later succumbed to her injuries.

At that time law enforcement officers feared the assailant was headed to Williston where Wilsey’s children attend school.

As a safety precaution, the schools went into secured campus mode and parents and guardians were notified via the automated One Call-Now system.

In addition to school resource officers, the Williston Police Department and Levy County Sheriff’s Office sent extra officers to both elementary schools and the high school as an extra precaution.

Schools operated on normal schedules throughout the day and dismissed at normal time.

Sometime around 3:30 Monday afternoon, the suspected assailant, Walker Gage Wilsey Sr., the victim’s estranged husband, was found dead in a Daytona Beach residence. His neck and wrists were slit, authorities said.

Walker Wilsey, 46, was a convicted sex offender, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website. Known by as many as 13 aliases, he was convicted on two counts of raping a child in 1988 in Athol, Mass.

In December 2013, he listed a temporary address in Homestead, Miami-Dade County.

A family friend told the Pioneer that Casey Wilsey was the mother of five children, ranging in age from a son in the military to a son who is 6.
