Springs best future may be found in working group

Two dozen people with an interest in improving and preserving the quality of  Fanning and Manatee Springs met Aug. 12 in Fanning Springs City Hall to plot the springs' future.

"Our hope today is to find and isolate hypothetical best and worst case scenarios for the future of our springs over the next 30 years,” said Carol Lippincott, coordinator of the Fanning and Manatee Working Group.

She worked closely with members of the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the University of Florida's IFAS (Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences) program to organize the event.

“What we are seeking is a visionary process, a planning process to help us reach solutions in keeping our springs beautiful,” she said.

Attendees were split into four groups, with two groups focused on a positive future, while the others focused on a more grim future. Each team was given the task of finding the methods and decisions necessary to either beautify or destroy our springs, and present their findings.
