Basketball banquet tonight

The Chiefland Indians and Lady Indians basketball teams will have their basketball banquet tonight, May 1, at Hardeetown Baptist Church fellowship hall beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Food will be provided.


Lady Indians make all-state hoops team

Two Chiefland Lady Indians basketball players have been named to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches 2014 Source Hoops Girls Basketball All-State team. 

Takiya “Kiya” London, a 6' 2” freshman, and Emmarie Carmen, a sophomore and team captain, were named to the third team in 1A girls hoops. 

London, a forward, played in 14 games and scored 211 points in the 2013-2014 season that saw the team go to the state finals for the first time, averaged 15.1 points per game. 

Carmen, a guard, played 18 games this year, posting 253 points and averaging 14.1 points per game. 


Lady Indians basketball starts workouts


The Lady Indians basketball will start summer workout/ open gym on Monday, May 5, at 5 p.m. 

Workouts will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The team will also be participating in a summer league in June. It will be open to middle schoolers, as well as high school players.

The team has a 2013-14 district championship and regional championship to defend and unfinished business in Lakeland.


At Bronson Speedway

Bronson Speedway's Mudville will be open on Friday, May 2, at 8 p.m. 

On Saturday, May 3, the Speedway is running the rescheduled, rained out Easter weekend show. There will be an Easter egg hunt. There will be racing in the Sportsman 50L, Purestock, StrictlyStock, BlastCar, Legend, Bandolaro, and Street Stocks will also race. Pit gate opens at 4 p.m.
