I did not write the headline on this column, nor did I write most of what you will read here. But what follows is pretty darned good stuff that I wish I had thought of writing.
It came from the editorial board of our sister paper, the Citrus County Chronicle. One interesting thing about that group. Instead of being a bunch of professional editorial writers, or just writers, it has everyday folks who sit in on discussions that lead to the opinion piece.
The issue the group chose to discuss was the new class of public officials chosen in the November elections. While there were specific references to Citrus County's political scene in the editorial, those have been removed.
But the examples could have very well applied to Levy County where we have had our share of trouble and every incumbent but State Rep. Leonard Bembry and State Sen. Steve Oelrich were turned out of office. It's tough to call Levy County Commissioner Chad Johnson an incumbent when he was a gubernatorial appointee and he ran in a "new" district.
